Preston Matalan | Grand Opening!

For those of you that don’t know, Matalan is a massive brand in the UK. Boasting over 200 stores around the country, they are known for their clothing and homeware products at more than reasonable prices. Matalan was founded by Liverpool native John Hargreaves in 1985, opening its first store in Bamber Bridge, Preston. Fun fact: my first ever shopping trip on my own started with a purchase from Matalan, so you could say Matalan is the store that fueled my love for shopping.

With that said, you could imagine my excitement when I was invited as a PR guest to Matalan’s grand opening of their store in St. George’s Shopping Centre in Preston, to experience their autumn/winter range. This brand new, large store has been reintroduced to Preston, appearing on the High Street for the first time in the companies’ history, and boasting its usual massive range of fashionable clothing, knitwear and home decor. Its opening is a crucial part of the revamp of Preston’s central shopping district, bringing variety for shoppers and job opportunities for the locals.

I was so thrilled for this!

First of all, I have to say, the shop looks incredible. Fresh, clean and filled with clothing, accessories and everything else, I was completely in my element wondering through the store’s departments, with 30 minutes to browse in private before the doors opened. Needless to say, I was stuck for choice! Rock FM (the local radio station) were there as well to greet the massive queue of customers, the first 250 of which received vouchers ranging from £5, £10 and £20. The ribbon was cut by Janice, Matalan’s most loyal employee who has been with them since the first store opened back in 1985!

The staff were smiley, helpful and no task was too much trouble for them. You could tell how proud they were that their hardwork had paid off into this massive opening. Their displays looked wonderful and despite how busy the store was, the wait at the till was seamless, thanks to the self-checkout service they offer.

Whilst there, I decided (after much deliberation) on a beautiful pink faux fur coat and an elegant patterned black jumper. They made for a lovely combination, as you can see in the pictures…

One reason I don’t like shopping sometimes is that I can never find my size. It’s so frustrating! But Matalan never lets us curvy girls down and there was an abundance of bigger sizes to pick from and try on.

After the event, we were treat to an amazing brunch at one of Preston’s premier restaurants, Bistrot Pierre, and for many that know me, you’ll know this is one of my favourite places to go for food in Preston, though I’ve never had brunch there before! Getting to meet the other guests and the lovely ladies that organised the event was such a great opportunity. I met and conversed with some very talented people, and we all shared stories and experiences over a scrumptuous breakfast and rich coffee.

Overall, I came away from the event having had such an amazing time, and this will go down as one of my favourite experiences as a blogger.

This glamorous and luxurious faux fur coat has completed my winter wardrobe. The colour is beautiful, in a pop pink shade and I love the deep pockets. It’s long enough that you can wear a nice dress underneath it, but also, if you’re like me and have a lot of black in your wardrobe, you can really spruce up your colour scheme with this gorgeous winter coat. Also, at £29 currently, it’s a bargain, seeing as it looks so elegant and expensive!

I also picked up a reallly classy black high neck jumper. I adore the frills around the neck, on the sleeves and along the bottom. It’s a lightweight jumper and ideal for October.

I would pair this up with some boyfriend jeans and some nice, black, snakeskin/leather boots. However, it’s versatile enough to wear in a casual way as well, as you can see above, where I partner it with some black leggings and slip-on Vans.
